Totally Random Stuff That’s On My Mind Today!

May 6, 2008

Tiger Beat! Don’t ask me what made this pop into my brain today but it did. Ah, the fond memories of a crisp new Tiger Beat (even more exciting than the new issue of Threads or Burda WOF)! Shiny posters with words of love from Donnie Osmond or David Cassidy! The Monkees! Leif Garrett! Hip huggers (wait, I’m wearing those as we speak…), macrame belts, body suits (the first time around!)! Gawd, I feel old…

tb

Scarves! I used to wear scarves all the time. On my head: a la Grace Kelly and, later, Rhoda. Small scarves tied on my wrist - tricky to do yourself. Around my neck. Through my belt loops. I’m still tying them onto my purses! Last night I dreamt I was on a ferry with my grandmother and was carefully putting a scarf over my hair. After I got off the ferry I was having lunch at Countess Luann de Lesseps’ home. I sure hope the scarf was from Hermès because, believe it or not, I don’t dine with royalty every day.

Apparently, I am spending way too much time daydreaming….and watching The Real Housewives of NYC on my TiVo…

  1. Cracks me up: Spock on the cover of Tiger Beat!!

  2. Favorite Monkee: definitely Micky

Favorite NYC Housewife: Hmm, well I’ll go with Ramona for the sheer ridiculous foot-in-mouth drama that is her raison d’etre. Plus I love her daughter.

  3. Teehee, I love it when Jill calls her Ra-mean-a - which is very fitting!

  4. Or when Ramona said “Chronical Age”…instead of “chronological”…

    Gail

PS: Hands Off Davey Jones :)

  5. I’m still in scarf mode! And I’m so glad you brought up the Real Housewives, which I swear I had no intention of watching, but hey…I couldn’t find the remote control to change the channel. Over and over again, I couldn’t find it. May I nominate the entire group for the “Useless as Tits on a Frog” Award? But Alex….Alex, with her deer-in-the-headlights gaze…I think she should be the prototype for Shallow Barbie. Come on, ya ditz. If you have to work that hard to prove you belong in that social set, you DON’T! There. I’m done. I’ll go look for that remote control now.

  6. Well, if it’s a dream scarf why not have Hermes?! (about the only way I’ll ever have one!)

  7. Well I haven’t thought about Tiger Beat in ages!! Whatever made you think of it?

  8. Guilty of watching some of the Real Housewives of NYC. ;o) Tiger Beat mag…be still my heart. Let’s see I was in love with Bobby Sherman (hey I was 11) Late came Jay Osmond (BFF already liked Donny..couldn’t like the same guy) Taped posters all over my wall. And yes, I wore hip-huggers, body suits, scarves tied around my neck, platform shoes. Egads!!! I dress a bit like that now in my down time. Yup, I too feel old. LOL!!!!!

  9. Wow! Does that bring back memories…of laying in my canopy bed and looking at all the pictures taped to my wall and dreaming of becoming Mrs. Michael Jackson…thank goodness that didn’t work out! *LOL*

  10. Carolyn, you made me laugh out loud! Mrs. Michael Jackson, indeed! Of course, he was just a super-cute, super-talented kid in those days before the Freak Show started… David Cassidy lives here in Ft. Lauderdale somewhere so maybe there is still hope for me!

  11. Bobby Sherman was SO hot.

  12. Also, since the age of like, nine, I’ve had a major crush on Tom Jones. And you know what? The voice on the records is the same voice live.

    Love that man.

  13. Emmi keeps changing my posting ID!

  14. Bobby Sherman was a fav, but I loved Randolph Mantooth. Remember him? Thanks for bring up such great memories.

  15. Oh, geez, I was going to mention Tom Jones but my friends already roll their eyes every time I bring him up! I LOVE him! I once sat next to him at Club Dallas in Ft. Lauderdale and couldn’t get up the nerve to ask him for an autograph - I was 19 and he was hot!

And, yes, Sherril, I do remember Randolph Mantooth - Emergency!, right? He is still a hunk!
